Introduction to Child Development and Attachment

winter 2010 017 150x150 Child DevelopmentThis one day, level one course is an overview of child development and attachment for workers in childcare and education.  It is a helpful for those working at all levels of need, as it provides an introduction to key issues in child development and introduces an attachment focused model of care.  Level two and level three course explore topics of trauma and extreme behaviour in more depth.

Learning outcomes

  • Identify factors influencing child development, including normal and abnormal      development
  • Identify causes of individual difference
  • Understand the transactional nature of development
  • Link temperament to developmental outcomes
  • Apply a lagging skills model to behavioural difficulties
  • Work towards promoting self-esteem
  • Understand the developmental impact of unmet needs
  • Explain the biological imperative of attachment
  • Provide authoritative parenting
